Discover the beauty of Catalonia's Costa Brava, one of Spain's most scenic and characterful cycling regions

Catalonia's Costa Brava is one of Spain's most beautiful cycling regions, where quiet greenways, coastal paths and gently rolling back roads connect fishing villages, vineyards, medieval towns and sparkling Mediterranean views.

Your 6-day bike tour begins in historic Girona, an easy train ride from Barcelona and a wonderful place to explore before the tour starts. From there, you ride toward the coast, pedaling past sandy beaches, rocky coves, seaside towns and vineyard-draped hills.

Along the way, you'll experience Catalonia's distinctive blend of language, culture and gastronomy. Pause for fresh seafood by the water, sip local wines, and wander cobbled streets in centuries-old villages. Your tour ends in Figueres, birthplace of Salvador Dalí, where a visit to the extraordinary Theatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dalí offers a memorable final chapter.

Scenic riding, coastal beauty, Catalan flavor, and full support, all at the perfect pace of a bike.

Tour Highlights

Day by day on your bike tour

Read about each day of the itinerary and check out the map below for the picturesque route you'll take on this tour.

Your Costa Brava cycling adventure begins in Girona, where a comfortable bike path leads you out of the city and onto the Vía Verde “El Carrilet” greenway. This peaceful route carries you through the small towns of Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d’Aro, each offering a lovely chance to pause, stretch your legs and ease into the ride.

As you pedal toward the Mediterranean, the landscape opens to beautiful views of the Costa Brava. Your ride ends in the coastal town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, where you can spend the afternoon your way — take a dip in the sea, stroll along the beach or visit the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols before gathering for dinner together tonight.
Accommodation: Eden Roc Hotel, Sant Feliu de Guixols
Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Biking: 27 miles (43.4 kilometers)
Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,039 feet (317 meters) ascent, 1,211 feet (369 meters) descent
Terrain: Easier

Today’s ride takes you along one of the most scenic stretches of the Costa Brava, following part of a panoramic stage from La Vuelta a España, Spain’s famous “Grand Tour.” Take your time and enjoy the sea views, winding roads and the satisfying feeling of riding through a landscape beloved by cyclists.

Your destination is Tossa de Mar, a beautiful medieval village set on a promontory above the sea. Its old fortified quarter, Vila Vella, is surrounded by 12th-century walls, complete with cylindrical towers and turrets that still watch over the coastline.

Wander the cobblestone streets, explore quiet alleys and ancient stone passageways, and let yourself feel transported back in time before returning to Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
Accommodation: Eden Roc Hotel, Sant Feliu de Guixols
Meals: Breakfast

Biking: 27.5 miles (44.2 kilometers)

The fresh scent of the sea stays with you during the first part of today’s ride as you follow a coastline dotted with lovely little coves and sparkling Mediterranean views. With pleasant temperatures for much of the year, you'll be able to slow down and savor the moment.

Later, you turn inland, pedaling over rolling hills and through medieval towns where daily life carries on around stone streets, quiet squares and local markets. There’s time to stop along the way, sample regional products and get a closer feel for Catalonia’s rich local character.

Your hotel tonight is just outside Torroella de Montgrí, a pleasant town watched over by the striking Montgrí Castle. This unfinished 13th-century fortress rises from the hill above town and creates one of the area’s most memorable views. Dinner is together at the hotel this evening.
Accommodation: Hotel Palau lo Mirador, Torroella de Montgrí

Today you ride north toward Roses, a lively coastal town with deep roots. Once home to a Greek colony and later a Roman settlement, Roses still carries traces of its ancient past alongside its beaches, harbor and inviting seaside atmosphere.

According to some historians, Greek settlers arrived here from the island of Rhodes as early as the eighth century B.C., drawn by the calm waters of Roses’ natural harbor. Today, you can explore the remains of both the Greek and Roman towns, enjoy the beach or cool off with a swim in the Mediterranean.

In the afternoon, a chartered boat carries you along the coast to Cadaqués, one of the Costa Brava’s most beloved villages and your home for the next two nights.
Accommodation: Hotel Villa Gala, Cadaques

This morning’s loop ride takes you to Cap de Creus National Park, one of the most dramatic and beautiful landscapes on the Costa Brava. Here, the mountains meet the sea in a wild, windswept setting of rocky headlands, blue water and sweeping views.

After the ride, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy Cadaqués. Relax on the beach, linger over lunch, or wander the steep cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses. This former fishing village has long inspired artists, including Salvador Dalí, Luis Buñuel, Pablo Picasso, Federico García Lorca and Marcel Duchamp, and you can still feel that creative spirit in its quiet lanes and bright seaside light.

Tonight, gather for dinner together and toast your final evening on the Costa Brava.

After breakfast, you transfer to Figueres, the birthplace of surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Together, you visit the Dalí Theatre-Museum, a fascinating and wonderfully unusual tribute to an artist whose imagination stretched across painting, sculpture, design, drawing, film, fashion and more.

Your Costa Brava cycling vacation ends after the museum visit. One group transfer is provided to the train station at approximately 1:30 p.m. You may choose to spend a little more time exploring Figueres before heading home, or continue your adventure with an extra day or two in Barcelona.

You'll stay in a carefully chosen selection of characterful hotels as you make your way along the Costa Brava. Think boutique seaside retreats in charming fishing towns, elegant historic properties overlooking medieval villages, and stylish hideaways in some of Catalonia's most picturesque corners. Each property is selected for its quality, atmosphere, and location — the kind of places that feel like a natural part of the journey itself. After a day in the saddle, you'll have a wonderful setting to unwind, enjoy great local food, and look forward to tomorrow's ride.

You’ll need a solid level of fitness for this tour. By far the best way to get in shape for riding a bicycle is by riding a bicycle! Build up gradually by riding more each time and be regular in your schedule. Practice using the low (easiest pedalling) gears on your bicycle and keep your legs moving quickly (a pace of 70-90 rpm is recommended). This is called “spinning,” and it takes much of the pressure off your knees, while still being the best exercise for conditioning and strengthening. Stationary bikes, rowing machines, NordicTrack-type exercisers, aerobics, and jogging are all excellent ways to get in condition as well. And don’t forget to stretch before and after your workouts.
