Please make your own way to The Aviary Hotel at your leisure. Take a taxi or ride service 20 minutes from the airport and check into your boutique hotel (included) and relax after your travels. Enjoy the pool and Khmer Tonics Spa and Gym, if you like. If you get in early, the hotel offers several excursions. You are completely flexible on this day. The hotel stay is the only included item.

Meet your guide at 8 a.m. at the hotel. Put on your tennis shoes and drive about an hour in an air-conditioned vehicle through the Cambodian countryside to reach Kulen National Park. Take a hike on the Langur Trail — named for the shy, leaf-eating monkeys that inhabit the area. Your walk takes you past fascinating riverbed carvings and a waterfall … all the way to a temple set into the escarpment. Take a refreshing dip in the spring-fed pool before returning to your comfortable hotel in Siem Reap.

Dinner is together at one of the city’s best restaurants.

Hiking: 4 miles (6.5 kilometres)

Cycle from the hotel doorstep and out into the Angkor Archeological Park. Ride the Angkor Bikeway and hidden trails through the ruins and forest of Angkor. Pause to visit several fascinating temple sites built in the 12th and 13th centuries, which include Buddhist and Hindu carvings and structures. See the Bayon with its serene faces and banyan trees. Enjoy the stunning and significant Preah Khan temple — much of which has been left unrestored with plants growing among the stone structures.

Stop at the atmospheric and compact Ta Som temple, with a dramatic ficus (fig) tree enveloping one of the towers. We offer traditional snacks and coconut juice to enjoy as you push on to Banteay Srei with its unique pink sandstone temple featuring intricate carvings.

After exploring that site, eat lunch together at a local restaurant and then return to the hotel by vehicle.

Biking: 36 miles (58 kilometres)
Terrain: Intermediate - 60% paved, 40% gravel, mostly flat

Your final day in Cambodia includes an unforgettable sunrise over Angkor Wat, the most iconic of all the temples. Use the soft light of early morning and the absence of other travelers (most of whom go back to bed) to explore the chambers and the inner core of the temple. Your guide interprets the stories depicted in the plentiful carvings. Leave the temple with a sense of calm and awe, and enjoy breakfast in a secluded spot by the river.

Then take one final ride through the hidden trails and along the top of the defensive walls of Angkor Thom. Visit the highlight temple of Ta Prom, passing closely by the hidden Tanei temple. Return to your hotel for a quick shower and late checkout.

Your guide will then transport you to the airport and see you off as you depart for home or further travels.

FAQs

From questions about fitness for this tour to what the accommodations are like, please have a read through of our Frequently Asked Questions.

On the first day of the tour, please make your own way to The Aviary Hotel at your leisure. You're on your own for dinner tonight, and you'll meet your guide for breakfast at 8am on Day 2. You are welcome to book your pre-tour stay at this hotel directly or any other hotel in Siem Reap, though you must make your own way to The Aviary Hotel on the first day.

Your tour ends with a drop-off at either the Siem Reap International Airport at 3pm in time for flights below or we can leave you at the last night’s hotel, The Aviary Hotel, around 2pm.

Arrival: We recommend arriving in Siem Reap at least the day before your tour starts. Many guests like to arrive a day or two early to accommodate potential flight delays and/or explore the city prior to your tour start.

Departure: Flying out on the last day of the tour, we recommend departing from Siem Reap after 7pm. Earlier flight times will require a separate transfer booked at your own expense.

We have selected the accommodation on the tour for the stunning setting and adventuresome feel. You’ll love the place you’ll stay in on this tour, The Aviary Hotel Cambodia is an eco-friendly, modern style, urban design hotel in the heart of Siem Reap with comfortable rooms, a turquoise pool wonderful views of the vines and flowers that drape over the balconies above.

You’ll need a solid level of fitness for this tour. By far the best way to get in shape for riding a bicycle is by riding a bicycle! Build up gradually by riding more each time and be regular in your schedule. Practice using the low (easiest pedalling) gears on your bicycle and keep your legs moving quickly (a pace of 70-90 rpm is recommended). This is called “spinning,” and it takes much of the pressure off your knees, while still being the best exercise for conditioning and strengthening. Stationary bikes, rowing machines, NordicTrack-type exercisers, aerobics, and jogging are all excellent ways to get in condition as well. And don’t forget to stretch before and after your workouts.
