CANCELLATION POLICY Effective May 20, 2020 – 

We hope you’re excited to plan your bike vacation, and our small-group outdoor experiences are especially appealing in these unusual times. As a small, family-owned tour business, we appreciate your support of our company and our partners in the travel industry by reserving a tour with us. To keep the opportunity for bicycle tours available, we have adapted our cancellation policy.

As has been widely recognized, the global COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted many businesses and their ability to provide services. Discovery has been no exception. The interruption of business has been unprecedented. As a result, we are modifying our cancellation policy for all tours going forward.

A. For new North America (U.S. and Canada) tour reservations from May 20, 2020, forward:

1) At the time of deposit: After making a deposit, you have five business days to cancel without any penalty. After that, your deposit becomes nonrefundable. However, we recognize plans may change. So your deposit may be transferred to another available tour that occurs within the following 18 months.

2) At 60 days before: Final payments are due 60 days before Day 1 of the tour. Upon payment of the final installment, all payments are fully transferable to a tour that occurs within 18 months but are not refundable.

3) At 14 days before: Your payments are no longer refundable or transferable at 14 days before Day 1 of your tour. (Exception: If authorities in your home location or the destination prohibit non-essential travel, all payments are fully transferable for 18 months.)

4) Postponed tours: If conditions prevent a tour from running as planned due to circumstances beyond Discovery’s control, Discovery may cancel or postpone the tour to a later date. In the event this occurs, Discovery will endeavor to provide as much notice as practicable under the circumstances.

5) Share your credits: Credits held can be transferred to a friend or family member upon written request and independent confirmation by Discovery.

In light of recent events, we reserve the right to change our policy in the face of force majeure or conditions beyond Discovery’s control that impact the ability to run any tour.

B. For most tours in Europe:

1) At the time of deposit: After making a deposit, you have five business days to cancel without any penalty. After that, your deposit becomes nonrefundable. However, your deposit may be transferred to another available tour that occurs within the following 18 months.

2) At 90 days before: Final payments are due 90 days before Day 1 of the tour.

3) Between 89 and 60 days before: At 89 days before Day 1 of the tour, all payments are fully transferable to an available tour that occurs within 18 months. If you require a refund instead, you are eligible to receive 50% of payments, less the deposit.

4) At 59 days before: all payments are fully transferable to an available tour that occurs within 18 months. Payments are no longer refundable.

5) At 14 days before: Your payments are no longer refundable or transferable at 14 days before Day 1 of your tour. (Exception: If authorities in your home location or the destination prohibit non-essential travel, all payments are fully transferable for 18 months.)

6) Postponed tours: If conditions prevent a tour from running as planneddue to circumstances beyond Discovery’s control, Discovery may cancel or postpone the tour to a later date. In the event this occurs, Discovery will endeavor to provide as much notice as practicable under the circumstances.

8) International tours: Due to the nature of the arrangements required for international travel, portions of your payments may not be fully refundable or transferable. We will work with you and our partners to determine refunds and/or credits. 

C. For tours in Florida Keys, Chile and Bike & Barge:

1) At the time of deposit: After making a deposit, you have five business days to cancel without any penalty. After that, your deposit becomes nonrefundable. However, your deposit may be transferred to another available tour that occurs within the following 18 months.

2) At 120 days before: Final payments are due 120 days before Day 1 of the tour.

3) Between 119 and 60 days before: At 119 days before Day 1 of the tour, all payments are fully transferable to an available tour that occurs within 18 months. If you require a refund instead, you are eligible to receive 50% of payments, less the deposit.

4) At 59 days before: all payments are fully transferable to an available tour that occurs within 18 months. Payments are no longer refundable.

5) At 14 days before: Your payments are no longer refundable or transferable at 14 days before Day 1 of your tour. (Exception: If authorities in your home location or the destination prohibit non-essential travel, all payments are fully transferable for 18 months.)

8) International and Florida Keys tours: Due to the nature of the arrangements required for resort or international travel, portions of your payments may not be fully refundable or transferable. We will work with you and our partners to determine refunds and/or credits.

D. Vietnam tours, for reservations made after May 20, 2020:

1) At the time of deposit: After making a deposit, you have five business days to cancel without any penalty. After that, your deposit becomes nonrefundable. However, your deposit may be transferred to another available tour that occurs within the following 18 months.

2) At 150 days before: Final payments are due 150 days before Day 1 of the tour.

3) Between 149 and 90 days before: At 149 days before Day 1 of the tour, all payments are fully transferable to an available tour that occurs within 18 months. If you require a refund instead, you are eligible to receive 50% of payments, less the deposit.

4) At 89 days before: all payments are fully transferable to an available tour that occurs within 18 months. Payments are no longer refundable.

5) At 14 days before: Your payments are no longer refundable or transferable at 14 days before Day 1 of your tour. (Exception: If authorities in your home location or the destination prohibit non-essential travel, all payments are fully transferable for 18 months.)

E. Reservations made before May 20, 2020:

As has been widely recognized, the global COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted many businesses and their ability to provide services. Discovery has been no exception. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been unable to run and complete tours that, no doubt, our valued guests were looking forward to. We have been as disappointed as you are. 

Given the extreme disruption of our business, we are encouraging those who reserved a tour with Discovery and whose plans were affected by COVID-19 to give us an opportunity to apply any available deposits or balances to future tours in 2020 or 2021. Unfortunately, given the rapid evolution of the pandemic and various closures, it is entirely possible that the complete payment may not be available to apply to another tour — depending upon the location of the tour — given our commitments to our vendors and suppliers to ensure that upon arrival, our guests are provided with the outstanding value and experience that they have come to expect from Discovery. Refunds may take extra time during this difficult period for the travel industry, and we would greatly appreciate it if you are able to leave your deposit as a credit toward a future tour.

D. Please purchase Travel Insurance:

There are several reliable companies to choose from. **Before you purchase a policy, however, be sure to check with your credit card company to see if they offer free travel insurance.
