Trip Overview

In spring or fall, biking in sunny Clearwater Beach, Florida, makes the perfect getaway! With numerous trails and bike paths nearby, there’s plenty to see and explore on two wheels. You also traverse two popular causeways with protected bike lanes as you sample the best riding on the Pinellas Peninsula.

Over four days of riding, you spin the full length of the famous Pinellas Trail. This is a “Hall of Fame” trail according to the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. You also explore both the Clearwater Beach and Courtney Campbell Causeways. Unpack once and stay near the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay at a great hotels and enjoy fresh seafood ... and a special lunch at a local Greek restaurant in Tarpon Springs.

Itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrival Day
Distance: 11 miles | Terrain: Easier | Courtyard by Marriott Clearwater Beach
Meet your leaders at Tampa Airport in the early afternoon. After brief introductions, shuttle to Ben Davis Beach for a bike fitting, have a safety review, and then set off on your first ride. Pedal on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, a bike path along the causeway connecting Tampa Bay and the Clearwater area. You have great views of the water, birds and kite boarders as you enjoy your first warm-weather ride in Florida! Finish the ride at the Safety Harbor fishing pier, where you can relax and enjoy the bayside boating scene. A short shuttle takes you onto Clearwater Beach, where you check in for your first night — right on the beach — and gather for a welcome dinner together.
DAY 2 - Clearwater Beach to Tarpon Springs
Distance: 18, 30 or 36 miles | Terrain: Easier | Courtyard by Marriott Clearwater Beach
Today's ride begins with pedaling over the Clearwater Causeway to the Pinellas Trail and then heading north on the Pinellas Trail to the historic fishing village of Tarpon Springs. You pass through a number of bayside towns and enjoy lunch together at a classic Greek restaurant. After lunch, head back south on the Pinellas Trail to Dunedin, where you end the ride at a trailside brewery. There is an option to either continue riding for the final 6 miles back to the hotel on Clearwater Beach … or to cut the ride shorter by hopping in the van after lunch in Tarpon Springs. Dinner is on your own this evening.
DAY 3 - Clearwater Beach to St. Petersburg
Distance: 26 or 36 miles | Terrain: Easier | The Birchwood, St. Petersburg
Begin with cycling over the Clearwater Causeway to the Pinellas Trail and then heading south on the Pinellas Trail to the end of the trail in downtown St. Petersburg. You pass through a variety of towns and parks. Keep an eye out for a section of engaging murals along the trail. You arrive in St. Petersburg in time for lunch and then go on a guided tour of the Dali Museum. After the tour of the Dali, you check into your boutique hotel. Dinner is with the group.
DAY 4 - Departure Day
Distance: 16 miles | Terrain: Easier
Today, your ride takes you on a loop along the water that connects with bike lanes back into town. Return to your hotel in St. Petersburg in time for showers before checkout. Lunch is on your own, and there is a shuttle back to the Tampa airport offered at 1 p.m.

DAY 4 - Departure Day
Distance: 16 miles | Terrain: Easier
Today, your ride takes you on a loop along the water that connects with bike lanes back into town — with a stop at our favorite local bike & coffee shop, The Bikery. After an optional coffee break, you return to your hotel in St. Petersburg in time for showers before checkout. For those wanting to stay on the bike trail, there is an option for an out-and-back on the Pinellas Trail this morning. Lunch is on your own, and there is a shuttle back to the Tampa airport offered at 1 p.m.
