Trip Overview

In spring or fall, biking in sunny Dunedin, Florida, makes the perfect getaway! With numerous trails and bike paths nearby, there’s plenty to see and explore on two wheels. You also traverse two popular causeways with protected bike lanes as you sample the best riding on the Pinellas Peninsula.

Over four days of riding, you spin the full length of the famous Pinellas Trail. This is a “Hall of Fame” trail according to the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. You also explore both the Clearwater Beach and Courtney Campbell Causeways. Unpack once and stay near the Gulf of Mexico at a low-key hotel in Dunedin and enjoy fresh seafood ... and breakfast at a different local restaurant each morning.

Whether you’re looking for a casual ride on car-free trails or a chance to do some longer optional rides, find your biking bliss on our Pinellas Trail Getaway. This tour is at a casual hotel and is priced to suit your budget.

Itinerary

From start to finish, check out the route.

DAY 1 - Arrival Day
Distance: 9 or 18 miles | Terrain: Easier | Hampton Inn Dunedin
Meet your leaders at the Hampton Inn Dunedin at 1 p.m. and get set up on your bike. The first ride is down the Pinellas Trail to Clearwater and then over the Clearwater Beach Causeway to the beach! Take some time to explore the white sands on this barrier beach and then return to Dunedin by bike or van.

Dinner is together at a casual waterfront restaurant near the hotel.
DAY 2 - Courtney Campbell Causeway
Distance: 25 or 45 miles | Terrain: Easier | Hampton Inn Dunedin
After a hearty breakfast, set out by bike for the Courtney Campbell Causeway trail to Tampa Bay. You can choose to ride back roads to and from this trail … or get a van ride for the non-trail portions of the ride.

The Courtney Campbell Causeway is a wide, dedicated bike path for its full length, with great views of Tampa Bay. Keep an eye and ear out for osprey, great blue herons, egrets and other bird life along the way. There are several options for lunch on the Tampa Bay side of the causeway, and you can also choose to ride in the van back to the hotel from Tampa. Tonight’s dinner is on your own in Dunedin.
DAY 3 - Pinellas Trail and St. Petersburg
Distance: 28 or 57 miles | Terrain: Easier | Hampton Inn Dunedin
Today’s ride takes you to the southern end of the Pinellas Trail to beautiful downtown St. Petersburg. The Pinellas Trail cuts across the Pinellas Peninsula through a wide variety of towns and parks. At the end of the trail, you arrive in St. Petersburg and have options for lunch and the chance to visit the Salvador Dalí Museum. This great museum hosts the second largest collection of Dalí works in the world and provides a fascinating overview of his art and the genre of Surrealism. Most guests will opt to van back to Dunedin, but there is also an option of skipping the museum and riding all the way back to Dunedin for a longer ride.

Your final celebratory dinner is at a local restaurant.
DAY 4 - Tarpon Springs
Distance:9 or 18 miles | Terrain: Easier
Today begins with a 9-mile ride to the north end of the Pinellas Trail in Tarpon Springs. You have breakfast near the famous sponge docks and afterward, explore the boats, shops and Greek heritage of the sponge divers there. You can van or bike to breakfast and then bike back to the hotel in Dunedin. Return in time to shower and say farewell to the group by 11 a.m.
