This classic tour is now offered self-guided at a significantly reduced cost. If you feel comfortable on a biking adventure without full-time tour guides, this might be the tour for you.
Monday we ride through quiet farmland with magnificent westerly vistas of the Adirondack Mountains. We ride along Lake Champlain and cross into New York to visit the Chimney Point Historic Site (great place for a picnic!). Those with extra energy this day might opt to take the ferry across Lake Champlain and visit historic Fort Ticonderoga. Tuesday we enjoy spectacular vistas, a swim at Branbury State Park, an optional ride up to Brandon Gap, and then an evening in Brandon, a village of tree-shaded streets and a marvelous mix of Federal, Greek Revival and Victorian homes. Wednesday includes a stop along the shores of beautiful Lake Dunmore before arriving in Middlebury, our home for the last two nights. Plan to arrive early enough to enjoy beer, wine and cider tasting at the Otter Creek Brewery and the Woodchuck Cidery and to take a leisurely stroll exploring this handsome town and the campus of Middlebury College. On Thursday, we cross the Pulp Mill Covered Bridge, pass the Morgan Horse Farm, and follow the Otter Creek out to beautiful Button Bay on Lake Champlain, where we enjoy spectacular views across the lake to the majestic Adirondack Mountains. Our last day’s ride takes us through the Middlebury College campus into lush rolling farmland while passing some of Vermont’s nest apple orchards before we arrive back in Shoreham.
