Three Rivers Bike Tour, Vermont – September 27-October 2, 2015

This tour offers the best of rural river-side cycling plus the opportunity to explore the wonderful small shops and attractions offered by some of Vermont’s loveliest villages. We begin in Norwich, home to some of the country’s most handsome Federalist buildings and a lovely green, as well as Dan and Whit’s, a genuine Vermont country store that has been serving the community since 1891. On Monday we ride through Hanover, home to Dartmouth College, and then ride along the Connecticut River to Lyme. From here we cross a covered bridge that leads us past Orford’s famous row of magnificent Federal-style ride Houses and loop around Lake Morey on our way back to Norwich, where we are treated to a tasting of their own in-house beers. Tuesday we can start our ride with a visit to King Arthur Bakery store, then follow the White River before wending our way to Quechee. Here we watch the glass blowing at the famous Simon Pearce glassworks, shop among the various craft and antique stores, and buy some local wine and Cabot’s cheese. We also visit dramatic Quechee Gorge where the adventurous might opt for a hike down to the river’s edge. Wednesday features a leisurely ride along the Ottauquechee River, passing the beautiful Taftsville covered bridge before arriving in Woodstock, widely considered one of the prettiest villages in the Country. This is Woodstock Farmer’s Market day so the beautiful green is bustling with local farmers and crafts people selling their goods. You will also have plenty of time to stroll through this elegant village with its shops, galleries, bookstores and handsome churches. Thursday’s riding takes us into the rolling hills of Barnard where we enjoy a lovely picnic along the shores of Silver Lake and take an optional ride along North Road before returning to Woodstock where we include a guided tour of the superb Billings Farm and Museum. Our last day we ride through Pomfret and some of the most beautiful countryside in Vermont, ending with a long easy descent to the White River.

*Single Travelers: A limited number of guaranteed private rooms are available on most tours at an additional cost. This cost is indicated on each tour page.

Single travelers willing to share a room will be charged an amount no greater than 50% of the guaranteed private room rate and this will be fully refunded if you end up sharing a room with another traveler. This cost is also indicated on each tour page.

The reason for these additional charges is that most of our inns charge Discovery Bicycle Tours by the room regardless of the number of occupants, but our per person tour rates are based on double occupancy. Therefore it costs Discovery Bicycle Tours substantially more to have only one occupant in a room. We do want to encourage single travelers and therefore absorb half of the additional cost to us when you end up in a private room without requesting it. You will note that on some tours there is no additional charge and this is because the inns on those tours are not charging Discovery Bicycle Tours.
