Itinerary

From start to finish, check out the route.

DAY 1 - Arrival Day
Ripoll Arrival Day | La Trobada Hotel
Ripoll is the capital of the comarca of Ripollès, in the province of Girona. It is located on confluence of the Ter River and its tributary Freser, next to the Pyrenees near the French border. The first traces of humans inhabiting the area date back from the Bronze Age, In the IX century, residents of the surrounding areas began to concentrate around the place that today is called the city of Ripoll. Take time to have a look at the famous Benedictine monastery built in the Romanesque style, Santa Maria de Ripoll, founded over 1100 years ago by Count Wilfred the Hairy. The magnificent Romanesque portal is one of the treasures of European sculpture.
We’ll enjoy dinner together tonight.
DAY 2 - Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park
Distance: 26.9 miles | Terrain: Easier | Joanetes | Hotel Vall de Bas
We cycle today towards the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. It’s a unique landscape carved out by ancient lava flows and bordered by volcano cones that make it the best example of volcanic terrain on the Iberian Peninsula. We pedal along greenways Vías Verdes, these are normally converted old railway lines and head down the Vall d’en Bas to reach tonight’s destination in Joanetes, a restored manor house and relax by the pool. Dinner is together at the restaurant in our hotel.
DAY 3 - Ancient villages to Girona
Distance: 32 miles | Terrain: Easier | Hotel Peninsular Girona
Today, the route descends from Joanetes to Girona by the Greenway cycle path, an easy and safe path, across the countryside and different ancient villages such as Sant Feliu de Pallerols, Les Planes d’Hostoles, and Amer or Angles. In Amer, you can stop and visit its natural sparkling fountain called Font Picant. Then, after four hours, you will arrive in Girona.
Girona has become one of the places chosen for many professional cyclists from all over the world because of the great quality of his roads and itineraries but is also a well-preserved example of a medieval town, narrow winding city streets, and one of the best-preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe.
From the city’s medieval walls, the Passeig de la Muralla, it’s possible to enjoy the views of the city and the surrounding countryside and reach the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral. Join our guided walking tour of this Medieval town in the afternoon. Tonight, explore the flavor of the Catalan cuisine. Gaudir del seu menjar! Enjoy!
DAY 4 - The Mediterranean Sea, The Costa Brava
Distance: 29 miles | Terrain: Easier | Saint Felio de Guixols | Eden Roc Hotel
A comfortable bike path leads us out of Girona. We are back on a greenway Vía Verde called “El Carrilet” which leads us to the Mediterranean sea. The small towns of Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d’Aro offer the opportunity of a stop along the ride. Great views of the Costa Brava will reward us for our efforts all the way to the coastal town of Sant Feliu de Guixols. Enjoy your afternoon with a dip in the Mediterranean sea, a walk along the beach or visit el Monasterio de Sant Feliu de Guixols before dinner together tonight.
DAY 5 - Lovely little coves
Distance: 36 | Terrain: Easier | Torroella de Montgri | Double Tree Hilton Emporda Hotel & Spa
The smell of the sea will follow us along the first part of our ride today. The coastline is scattered with lovely, little coves and it’s blessed with a pleasant temperature most of the year. We’ll then turn inland over rolling hills passing through medieval cities with their everyday life; a chance to stop and get to know the local products of the region. Our hotel is just outside Torroella de Montgri. While the town is pleasant and typical of the region, it is the Montgrí Castle, an unfinished 13th-century fortress that looms above the town on the hill and provides the main tourist attraction. Dinner is together at our hotel.
DAY 6 - Historic buildings and a dip in the sea.
Distance: 35 miles | Terrain: Easier | Cadaques | Hotel Playa Sol or Hotel Calina
Our route takes us north towards the coastal town of Roses. Roses used to be a Greek colony, centuries before Christ. Greeks came from the lovely island of Rhodes in 776 BC, tempted by the peaceful waters of Roses’ natural harbour, when they set up their commercial colony. Today, apart from enjoying the obvious charms of the beaches and evening entertainment, you can still see the remains of this Greek city and those of the Roman town. Enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean, some local specialty and in the afternoon we take a chartered boat ride to Cadaques, our destination for the next two nights. Dinner is together tonight in local restaurant
DAY 7 - Take a rest day or ride to Cap de Creus National Park.
Rest Day | Cadaques | Hotel Playa Sol or Hotel Calina
You have the choice today to take a loop ride today to Cap de Creus National Park, one of the most amazing places in Costa Brava, a paradise with sea and mountain landscape or to take it easy, relax, enjoy the beach and discover this charming village, the people, the steep cobbled streets, the whitewashed houses, the memory of so many famous artists who lived here: Salvador Dalí, Luis Buñuel, Pablo Picasso, Federico García Lorca, Marcel Duchamp…People who helped to turn this fishermen village into a tourist highlight.
